Petra-Maria Schumm-Draeger, MD, PhD is Medical Director, Center for Internal Medicine at Fünf Höfe in Munich, Germany. She previously served as Chief Physician of the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Angiology at academic teaching hospital Munich Bogenhausen in Munich and Associate Professor for Internal Medicine at the Technical University (TU) Munich, Klinikum rechts der Isar. Professor Schumm-Draeger completed her medical studies at the University of Frankfurt. Her current research activities focus on new therapeutic interventions and early diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular complications in Type 2 diabetes; autoimmune therapy for benign and malignant goiter; and polyglandular autoimmune syndrome. Professor Schumm-Draeger is a member of the German Internal Society of Medicine and President of the European Congress of Internal Medicine 2018. She served as Chair and President of the German Society of Internal Medicine in 2016-2017 and as Vice President of the German Society of Endocrinology (1997-2000). In addition, she is a member of numerous other professional associations, including the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and has published more than 150 articles and book chapters. She is a past recipient of the Von Langenbeck Prize from the German Society of Surgery and the Von Basedow Prize awarded by the German Society of Endocrinology. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Worldwide Initiative for Diabetes Education since 2012.
