Hydrogen will replace fossil fuels on the industry´s path towards carbon neutrality. It will be used as fuel, but also as reducing agent such as in direct reduced iron production. It is well known that hydrogen can attack refractories and destroy them over time, and which refractories are more or less prone to such attack. However, process conditions in new processes using hydrogen can differ from existing ones and research and testing are required in order
to achieve the desired life time of refractories. An international
group of experts from the industry and research institutes will discuss this in a panel at UNITECR.
